Up to 40% of food is wasted before it reaches the market

27 Feb, 2023

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), at least one third of food produced for human consumption does not reach the end consumer. On top of that, the FAO estimates that 30 to 40% of total food production is lost before it even reaches the market.

These are astounding figures, especially knowing that according to the same FAO, 870 million people don't have enough food. That is more than 1 out of 10 people on earth. It's only logical that the UN focuses on making the world's food systems more efficient. And that is where Janssen PMP comes in.

How Janssen PMP contributes to less food waste

So what exactly does Janssen PMP do to combat food waste and contribute to the UN's goals?

From our headquarters in Belgium we develop innovative crop management solutions

that tackle the problems during the complete supply chain: our products help to prevent diseases and increase the shelf life of crops.

Reducing waste through disease control …

Through disease control we develop products that help prevent fruit and vegetables from decaying, vastly extending their shelf life. Our strong technical and commercial end-to-end expertise help us to reduce disease and waste. And, collaborating with both educational and scientific institutes, and small and large corporations, we constantly work on new impactful technologies.

… and quality management

Once fruit and vegetables are harvested, the right product keeps them just as fresh, firm and juicy as when they were harvested. Quality management makes for less food waste and ensures people from all walks of life get the best quality for a correct price

Doing better together

We keep on evaluating and investing in new products by collaborating with both educational and scientific institutions and with small and large corporations. Simultaneously, we enable innovators to develop, scale up and commercialise new technologies that add to less food waste.
